Swine Flu

The health and well-being of our citizens has always been of utmost importance to our country. This can be seen in the recent measures taken to battle the swine flue epidemic. Vaccination clinics, increased availability of hand sanitizer, and public service advertisements on healthy behaviors have all been utilized in an attempt to bring this nasty bug to a halt. So what is left to do to end this precarious situation? Let the virus rip through our society, sickening thousands and killing hundreds? Of course not. That is why I propose an alternate solution to this swine flu dilemma.
Flu epidemics are not a new experience for the human race. In fact, we've survived flus far worse than the one at hand, particularly the flu of 1918. Why we haven't called upon these prior experiences for ideas is beyond me. Containment is one of the oldest tricks in the book when dealing with epidemics. Basically, containment is the practice of restricting the number of people who are infected by a particular disease by preventing human contact with those who already have it. The only problem is that we are currently living in an extremely interconnected world. Travel has made the necessary practice of containment nearly impossible.
That is why I propose an alternate form of flu containment. All citizens currently infected with the flu and those who may become infected in the future will be legally euthanized. It would be quite a simple process, really. If a patient is tested positive for swine flu, they will be euthanized on the spot by their primary health provider or physician. All funeral arrangements will be provided for and the process would come as no cost to the patient's family.
The health of our citizens is our top priority.
Please wash your hands.
