The American Dream: Out of Time

From the time America became a country, its citizens strove for a perfect life, found only in America. Basically, the American dream panned out to be having a job and a house to support your family and to exercise the rights given to you by your government. Immigrants flock here to find life, liberty and happiness, the motto of America. As time progresses, people have been expecting more and more in order to be happy. We just have to have that Mercedes, that flat screen television or that coveted i-phone. America has become a country of consumerism and greed.

With the sinking economy, people have had to cut down on their spending, but that doesn't mean they will stop dreaming. Time is of the essence for the typical American citizen. People are picking up extra shifts and working overtime, just so they can make a little extra spending money. Apparently this makes them happy.

If that is what America has come to, then I suppose we have to try and please the people, we gotta keep them happy. If we can find a way to give the people more money, then they would be happier. Obviously, a little more time on the job would fix that, but then they wouldn't have time to enjoy the things they would buy with the extra money from the longer workday. Okay, so it boils down to more time. If the day was longer, then they could get the extra work in without losing time at home. Right now, the earth rotates in approximately 24 hours, if we could simply slow down the rotation then there would be more hours in a day. To do this, I propose we set up millions of wind turbines around the world, this in turn would slow down the rotation of the earth because there would be so much wind in the opposite direction of the rotation.

This would help not only our time problem, but the environmental one too. With so many windmills we could afford to get rid of coal forever, the clean energy would push the world into a new era.

It is so important that American leaders please the citizens of the country. The people make up the country and they deserve to get what they want.

It's simple: more time=more work=more money=more happiness.
