Competition brings out the worst in everyone. Whether you are competing in order to win votes or to win a game. No matter who it is, nobody wants to lose. Especially me, I hate losing. I could rant on and on about volleyball and how frustrated I get with myself or with other players but I am not going to do that. I believe that people have some sort of innate mechanism in them that flares up when something is at stake. In many cases this would be pride and a feeling of success.
So I am going to share just one of my personal experiences that has to do with anger. It was the regional finals versus our cross town rival Dunbar. There was a lot of pressure, a state tournament bid was up for grabs and bragging rights for a whole year until the next season. I don't know what happened to the team that night, but let me tell you it was not pretty. It was the middle of the game and girls were crying and screaming at each other. It was kind of embarrassing. We could have easily won that game but our emotions got in the way. Taking your anger out on someone else is the worst way to make yourself feel better. You just put down the other person. That is what happened that night. Nobody was taking responsibility, we were blaming other people which just fueled our anger and apparently that made us play horribly. Anger makes you do crazy things, and it definitely does not solve any problem that comes to face you.
